Behind the Scenes / Summer 2016

We are thrilled to offer over 750 new home décor additions this season! As always, we traveled far and worked intensely to create quality, trend-forward goods to share with you all. Here are some highlights from our travels in Asia, and our catalog photography in the Portland, OR office.

We take our time to work closely with our great vendors making sure to create just the right combinations! Here Tamra switching styles and making custom finishes as she goes.

Left –  Sticks of metal, which in time will be bent, and welded to create metal baskets. During the Portland Office Design Manager, Alyssa’s first trip to Asia she was struck by the fact that most everything was hand made! Even after completing the creation process, the manufacturers take design one step further, and hand torch the metal until it achieves a rich brown color.

Right – Yes, we met Elvis! Well… AN Elvis, one night in Hong Kong.

Group photo! Smiling after working with one of our vendors. Relationships are everything in Asia. We are so lucky to have honed great relationships within the industry. What still strikes Tamra about this job is that it is a cottage industry; within the home accessory businesses, there are a lot of husband and wife teams.

This is a beautiful view of in-process ceramics before they are glazed and put back in the kiln.

Photography time is the first time all of the new product lives together in one space. When we design and make the objects the design team has pieces of the puzzle in mind, but it all comes together when new product arrives for catalog photography. Photography raises a lot of discussion in setting the mood and deciding what we are trying to say with the items.

Lovely photography props used for styling our catalog photography.

And of course, the dogs were a huge help during photography.

We hope to see you all at the summer markets! You can find the summer market schedule here and find your local sales representative here.
